About PYREX® – The Megabrand

Early twentieth century, as requested by the U.S.railway company, Corning created a glass lamp post which is able to withstand high heat and yet will not break due to huge temperature changes in the weather. Coming developed an unprecedented challenges not only against the extreme temperature changes, but will not be easily broken due to corrosion of chemicals.

In July 1913, after a series of events happened to the spouse of science engineer, Littleton, he began to focus on promotion a consumer line of products. His wife had used a roasting pot, which broke after a second time usage in the oven .She begged Mr. Littleton to bring back from his office a replacement. On the next day, Mr. Littleton back from work a low expansion coefficient of a simple glass baking pan. Littleton’s wife immediately made a sponge cake, she found: effect exceed expectation! From then on, a two-year research and development was launched. In society at that time, using glassware to bake or cook was a very new initiative. In 1915 (suppressed in 1915, blowing 1936), a mysterious new product line -Pyrex glass bake ware was launched in the country’s hardware store , department store , Jordan Marsh in Boston , placed their first Pyrex order.

PYREX ware is the original heat resistant ovenware and most trusted name for generations of home cooks. PYREX evolved from research undertaken by Corning early this century to develop heat and cold resistant railway signal lanterns. The Corning scientist, who developed this heat and cold resistant glass, thought it may also have application in the kitchen. The story goes that he took home a specially shaped piece for his wife to try in the oven to bake a cake, and the rest is history.

Apart from use in the oven, PYREX is also ideal for the microwave and can go from the freezer to a preheated oven without fear of breakage. It has a two year warranty against breakage from oven heat. However, unlike CORNINGWARE & VISIONS, it must not go directly from heat to cold and cannot be used on the stovetop.

PYREX is available in a comprehensive range of food preparation, overware, serveware and storage ware.
